2008 Point-to-Point Results

It has been a very succesful season for our Point-to-Point efforts. Alastair has ridden 5 winners during the season and has been well placed in the remaining outings. There are some pictures in the gallery as well as a short list of the results. The list of results and comments from the press appear below (in no particular order).

United Services at Larkhill (Division I) — Winner (14th February 2008)

"Niver Bai (Division I) and Pendoun (Division II) were impressive 25-length winners of the Maiden races. The former led coming up the hill and stormed clear to provide Paul Nicholls’ employee Alastair Ralph with his first win of the season and seventh in all. “We weren’t completely sure he would stay the trip, but he certainly has”, explained Alastair’s mother Diana, who bought the ex-Henrietta Knight hurdler privately from Trevor Hemmings in June."Pointing Wessex
"Both divisions of the maiden threw up a duo of 25-length winners that look useful types. Niver Bai won in a carefree fashion eased down by Alastair Ralph in division I, ..."Horse and Hound (10th April 2008)

Maiden Tedworth — Winner (5th April 2008)

"Reflector, trained by Maz Scudamore, sprinted clear in the straight to win the second division easily under Alastair Ralph, whose mother owns the seven-year old."Racing Post Weekender (9th April 2008)
"Diana Ralph's Reflector (Alastair Ralph) came good with a straightforward win in the second division. Reflector was bought from Henrietta Knight's yard at the same time as Niver Bai, already a dual winner this term."Horse and Hound (10th April 2008)

Stratford Hunter Steeple Chase — Winner (23rd May 2008)

"Alastair Ralph rode his first winner under Rules when Reflector shone at Stratford last Friday. But there was a large lump of luck as Reflector, trained by Maz Scudamore, was left clear by the final-fence fall of odds-on Armaturk, trained by the man who has been mentoring Alastair for three seasons, champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls. 'I don't know what would have happened. He [Armaturk] was coming there quite well, but he was just unlucky,' said Alastair, 21, who has ridden work on Armaturk at Nicholls's yard. 'Reflector has improved all season and Maz has brought the best out of him,' added Alastair.' I've learnt so much about him and more about how to ride him everytime.' "Horse and Hound (29th May 2008)
